The Law of Concentration

law of concentration

In this post I will dwell on the law of concentration, one of the laws of success. Understand that success is not a random phenomenon, rather it a well calculated effort guided by laws and principles. In a bid to understand the concept of successful living I have come up with some laws of Success. One of these laws is what I have termed the law of concentration. The law of concentration is a veritable strategy in the quest for success.

Concentration means to focus. According to Oxford learners dictionaries concentration is the action or power of focusing all one’s attention. It is giving your pursuit the complete and total attention it needs. It is all about giving your quest the undivided attention in order to achieve your desired objectives. In other words concentration is emasculating distractions and disturbances to achieve a purpose in life. In this post I will be using conquest and success interchangeably. Conquest means success. It is a means to success, that is to say the more you conquer challenges the more successful you become.

Conquest is all about concentrating on your quest in life. Whether it is spiritual quest, military quest, business quest, financial quest or academic quest concentration is very crucial. The power of concentration cannot be overemphasized. For you to have conquest in life you must consolidate on all your efforts, and it takes concentration to consolidate on your efforts.

Mathematically, the equation for the ‘law of concentration’ will be:
Concentration + Quest=Conquest, or C + Q = CQ – (where C is concentration, Q is quest, and CQ is Conquest).

Hence from the equation above we can deduce that the magnitude of your conquest over any given challenge of life is directly proportion to the level of your concentration and the effort inputted to solve any problem. In other words your conquest is a product of a combination of your effort and concentration. For instance if you open a book to read and you do not concentrate, no matter the effort you put in this reading, it will amount to effort in futility because you will not grasp anything without focus. So to succeed in your reading you must come to equilibrium where your effort matches your concentration.

Cause uproar in the east, strike in the west-Mao Tse-tung.

One of the greatest military strategists of all times, Chinese Mao Tse-tung, fondly called Chairman Mao in his book ‘On the Guerilla warfare’ adopted this military strategy. The sole objective was to diffuse or disorganize the opponent’s military formation because according to him when the enemies concentrate in a single base they pose a greater threat because there is power in concentration. This law is applicable not only in military warfare but also in our everyday challenges.

The law of concentration was in full glare at Babel (Genesis 11:6-8)

And the LORD said, behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do…. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Their quest was to build the city, and as long as they concentrated they were able to build. They only left the quest for building the city when they were scattered by God and lost concentration. Similarly many have abandoned their quest in life because there is no more concentration on their part. Unless you concentrate and become focus minded you will never test success.

The high point of the law of concentration is that it ensures that you don’t pursue shadows in life. There is a popular saying in this clime that a man whose house is on fire does not pursue rat. The law of concentration helps you to set your priorities right. By concentration you are able to solve life’s puzzles. It enables you to hit the bull’s eye or target and not to beat about the bush. Concentration encourages precision.

Learn to concentrate and to stay focus as lack of concentration will spell doom for your conquest. Losing concentration or focus is like the proverbial man chasing shadows without catching any. Success will become elusive without concentration. In a war time, a man was saddled with the responsibility of keeping a prisoner of war but while he was busy ‘pursuing shadows’, while he was busy ‘chasing after rats’ the prisoner escaped. He lost concentration. You must note that when you lose concentration or focus then the opportunities for conquest will slip out of your hands.

In the words of the great American Industrialist, a man who has conquered the business landscape, who has taken the business world by storm. He once said;

Concentration is my motto, first honesty, then industry, then concentration- Andrew Carnegie.

In any area you want to have conquest be it spiritual, military, business, financial, academics, marital etc. concentration is a major prerequisite. You must make concentration your motto, your pledge and your anthem. Abide by the law of concentration; then your success is a snap away from you.

Imagine, believe, dare to succeed.
